Good news for taxpayers, The Income Tax Department has officially extended the deadline for filing ITR, Earlier the deadline was July 31, 2025. Now the new date is September 15, 2025.
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said the extension was needed because the ITR forms have been changed this year. As a result, the filing system and software tools are still being updated, and it will take some time to test the system fully and make it ready for everyone.
What’s New in the ITR Forms?
This year’s ITR forms have been restructured to be easier and more transparent for taxpayers. They aim to simplify the filing process and help people report their income more accurately. The forms also include updated TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) details, which usually start appearing only in early June.
This new deadline is very helpful for salaried individuals and other taxpayers whose accounts don’t require auditing. Now they have 46 extra days, until September 15, 2025 to file their ITR.
So, if you’ve been waiting for updated TDS information or are still figuring out the new ITR format, this gives you some extra to do that.
